I find it very interesting the way that Raskolnikov is paranoid about his hat being to obvious. Once he realizes that it sticks out and is obvious he makes a mental note that he should wear a less obvious hat for if and when he commits the murder. If I was planning a murder I would never be able to carry it out. I would always be paranoid about all the little things. I think the only way I would be able to do it would be the same way he did. In the heat of the moment.

p.s. I comment on Katelyn Osborne's post.

  1. I like that you noticed this. I hearken back to the Ring of Gyges, where it is stated that the only driving force behind man's desire to do good is fear of consequences. Consequently *ahem*, paranoia at murder stems from our fear of the consequences. We don't want to get caught, so we make sure al the little things are in precisely the right place. Just thinking about that...

  2. First, I'm sort of scared that you're contemplating the type of murder you commit in the first place, but I do agree. I could never seriously plan a murder. This book reminds me a lot of a CSI show, except that it's from the murderer's point of view instead of the cops. I also agree with Cody, apart from never committing a murder because I just don't want to kill someone, I could never do that because I would be waaaaay too scared of getting caught!

  3. I'm always paranoid about my hat being too obvious, hence I rarely wear hats. On a more serious note, I completely agree about not being able to commit a murder for fear of the little things. I used to watch CSI religiously, and so I would always see the little tiny things that caused people to get caught. They're little things that I actually think about nowadays. Like, if I feel threatened by someone and I feel like they might forcibly take me somewhere, I leave as many fingerprints in inconspicuous places as possible. That way people can know I was there at some point.
