Thoughts about Silence

Books like these bring up topics that people can feel uncomfortable talking about. It brings up conversation that is edgy and a delicate topic. Subjects such as these tend to just be swept under the rug. One thing that I think about is the persecution that still goes on today- there is probably so much that goes on that no one knows about. In Vietnam for example churches are stil in secret and underground. Followers of Christ are put in jail and are threatened with violence against themselves and thier families. If that happened here in the US it would have media attention and wouldn't be tolerated. This novel reminds me of the book Night.

  1. I agree that if something like this happened in the U.S. it would have mass media coverage, and probably wouldn't be tolerated, (at our present state though who knows).
On thing to take into account though, is that America is still a free country and, presently, we still have freedom of religion. In Vietnam though they don't have that freedom, the government wouldn't let the media cover persecution of Christians. I just wanted to point out the difference between that freedom, even though you already knew that.
I do have one question that comes to mind, with this subject though. Would Christian Americans have the same courage that our Vietnamese brothers and sisters do, under the same persecution? Would we still gathered to meet and pray even though our lives were at stake, or would we say millions fall away?
