Soup

Today, I decided to get some broccoli cheese soup. As I scooped the soup into my to-go cup I thought back to Man's Search for Meaning when Frankl discussed the cook and how he gave equally to all and how some "staff" treated some of the prisoners. I think that part of the reason everyone was so quiet on Tuesday (hopefully, had NOTHING to do with a lack of reading) was because 1. Dr. T was talking and I think everyone is a little afraid of him now since our discussion pre-SB and 2. Frankl has to be processed and digested. I find myself drawing back to the thoughts posed and reflecting further. Little things like the soup moment that could have passed completely unnoticed seem amplified. The faster we live and the more wrapped up in our selves we become the less we notice those little things and significance. Those who have been slowed and restrained often can better assess significance and meaning.

  2. I like what you said, Rachel, about taking time to notice the small moments of life. I found myself today taking a minute out of my rush to class just to stare at a spiderweb on a bush (which might have caused other people to take a minute out of their rush to stare at the strange girl staring at a bush, haha). Sometimes i do think that we're always just so caught up in our schedules that we don't notice the little miracles and happenings around us. Every once in a while it's cool just to take a step back to breathe and say, "Ok. Let me just enjoy this one moment that God has given me for everything in it." I wish we did that more often.

  3. Perspective, perspective, perspective. It seems this word keeps hitting me in the face these days. I agree, things like this must be digested. Talmage is right--if we took another day on this material, we would need another, then another. The longer we reflect on this, walk away, return, and repeat, the more it can show us about ourselves, about the past, about the here and now, and teach us something about the future.
