I cannot help but wonder even when reading the first few pages about Binx. Here is this man who is looking for something more, but is by no means adventerous. It seems as though he would rather experience life through movies instead of experiencing life through the senses. Even his old secretary Linda sees this and is disappointed by the lack of stability in the physical world he has. What I find most interesting is the fact that he is so caught up in the big picture that he is limiting himself in his search to realize the bigger picture beyond the marquee....
I commented on Nickhampton's Model Tenant/Citizen???
Grading is based on one original post and one response. These two posts add up to ten points per week. The criteria are as follows: Completion; please refrain from poor grammar, poor spelling, and internet shorthand. Reference; mention the text or post to which the reply is directed. Personality; show thoughtfulness, care, and a sense of originality. Cohesiveness; The student should explain his or her thought without adding "fluff" merely to meet the requirement.
So Binx thinks that he can find the answer to his 'search' through movies, or is he hoping to find more clues? I think he knows that the bigger picture is beyond the theatre, he just doesn't know to find it, so he starts with what seems to know the 'search'. I do agree with you though, he's totally missing the bigger picture.
ReplyDeleteHe considers mundane, everydayness with using your senses, which is why I think he doesn't approve of Romantics. Romantics are all about using the body and soul and reconnecting to nature through these. But I think he knows you can't be strictly scientific in searching for clues for 'the search", because that requires categorizing things, and you cant do that to 'the search'.
