A thought that came to mind when we were discussing Bonhoeffer. I asked myself if I would have done what the disciples did when Christ called the to drop everything and follow Him.
In the society we live in, we can’t imagine having to give up all of our junk for anything. We can’t even imagine giving up anything. This makes me think that I can have no idea what it must have been like to give up everything to follow Christ. Yes we may face “persecution,” but in present day America, what is that other than some one turning away from you when you say something about Christ?
So, my thought from earlier, would I, or any of you, be willing to literally give up everything to follow Christ or if it was harder than most people have it here would we just give up?
PS - I commented on Anna Rhodes' post.
I like what you have done here. Lately, I have had these same questions when dealing with acts 1 and matthew 28. What is the cost of discipleship? What do I have to give up so that I may not be distracted from God's will?
ReplyDeleteOften times, these questions are what keep us from trusting fully in Christ and following Him, and we get so caught up in the things we think will benefit us the most, that we walk away sad and miss the opportunity
