Hitler vs. the world

In class on Tuesday, I really wrestled with our discussion about whether or not killing Hitler is justified. Personally, if I was locked in a room with Hitler and happened to have a gun on me, I would probably shoot him without hesitation simply out of hatred. Emotionally, I can justify this action. Genocide should be punished, who can argue with that? I can't help but bawl like a baby when I watch a Holocaust documentary or read a book about it's victims (i.e. Frankl). Just thinking about it breaks my heart like few other things can. Yet... Spiritually and morally I cannot justify taking a life, no matter whose life it is. Who are we to decide who deserves to live and who deserves to die? If Hitler deserves to die, then so do I. This may sound extreme, but how many lives are on my hands because I neglected my Christian duty to bear witness? God says that when we withhold the Gospel from someone their blood is on our hands. So, 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone'.Taking Hitler's life is like saying, "God, I don't trust you to make things right and I'm not so sure you know what you're doing by letting such an evil man gain so much power. Since you aren't doing your job, I'll just take matters into my own hands." or in more concise words, "Hold up, God. I got this!" it is not our job to play God. He is the God of justice, and we are merely sinners, just like Hitler. David had many chances to kill Saul, but instead he waited on God's justice. I'm pretty sure this post also summarizes my view on Capitol punishment. You can chew my ear off about the impossibility of accommodating so many prisoners and "an eye for an eye", etc., but I will never completely agree with giving the government the power to decide a person's fate. Thus, why I will NEVER be a politician...

  1. I definitely hear you on capital punishment. I do not agree with it--especially since there is so much error in our legal system. We are imperfect humans and it is impossible for us to make a perfect judgement on a soul the way the Lord can. I would rather He be the Judge than let myself condemn a person to death.
